Lawn scarification, like aeration forms a fundamental part of a lawn maintenance programme.
What is Lawn Scarification?
The Scarification of your lawn is the mechanical removal of surface thatch which naturally forms on a lawn. A build-up of thatch over time can prevent nutrients such as oxygen, fertiliser and of course water from penetrating to the grass roots. Lawn scarification removes majority of the surface thatch that without treatment would the leave the surface being mossy and spongy.
How can I tell if my lawn needs Scarification?
Does your lawn feel spongy and is suffering with widespread moss during the autumn and winter months? These are often signs that your lawn needs a scarification treatment.
When should lawn scarification be completed?
Lawn scarification is best completed during the spring and autumn months; This is because after scarification, lawns can look very untidy and need time to recover to its former glory.
Lawn scarification does not remove all the surface thatch at once, that is why further treatments are needed over time. Completing a deep scarification would significantly reduce the amount of grass left on a lawn and this would be harmful.
To maintain a lawn in top condition, Lovely lawns tailor all treatments to each individual lawn and the condition it is in.
Scarification is an essential practise of a good annual lawn treatment programme and is included as part of our “Pay Monthly Service”.
What do we do with the thatch waste?
We will always neatly bag the waste up, put it on your compost heap or in your waste bin.
